P H OTO S BY AU R T H U R E LG O R T (S O P H I E E LG O R T ) 1 SOPHIE ELGORT Sophie Elgort is a photographer and director born in New York City. In addition to her commissions for multiple fashion brands, her photographs have appeared in Cultured, Elle, Paper, Teen Vogue, and The Financial Times. She is represented by Staley-Wise Gallery, where her work was included in the gallery's group exhibition of portraits this past summer. "During Covid, I created a video series on Instagram with my dad called Behind the Lens with Arthur Elgort. Each episode was centered around a different one of his iconic pictures, and he told the story behind the image and I asked questions along the way. Two years later it was great to bring back the concept in this conversation with my father," she says of her story "Beyond the Frame." 2 FANNY SINGER Fanny Singer is a Los Angeles–based writer and author of "Always Home: A Daughter's Recipes and Stories" (Knopf). An art historian by training, she was keen to catch up with interior designer Sally Breer, daughter of the late contemporary artist Robert Breer. Singer is also the founder of the homeware brand Permanent Collection, whose upcoming releases include limited-edition artisan platters and new additions to the Alice Waters Kitchen Collection (a collaboration with her mother, the world renowned chef and activist). Singer is currently at work on a salad cookbook. 3 DOUG ORDWAY Having recently moved back to the States after a long stint in Costa Rica, photographer Doug Ordway dug into his archives for this issue's tribute to Gianni Versace. A longtime photographer for the brand, Ordway began capturing behind-the-scenes moments in Milan, where he quickly became friends with the Versace family. "I was a bit of a 'wildcard' then, as Versace was known to work with the best of the best photographers," says Ordway. "Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier... and some young dude named Doug Ordway!" He's recently launched Versace Unseen, a website based on the archives of Versace. C ON T R I BU T OR S 2 3 1 Sophie Elgort, Southampton, NY, 1989, by Arthur Elgort 52 BAL HARBOUR
