1984 GALA BAL HARBOUR
Dubbed a "Mecca for French fashion,"
Bal Harbour Shops presented its first annual
gala with an "Evening of Fashion, Dining and
Dancing" to benefit the Greater Miami Opera
Association. The black-tie event featured a
restaging of prêt-a-porter collections from 16
fashion houses—including Yves Saint Laurent,
Chanel, and Lanvin—that premiered just two
weeks before in Paris (and were showing next
in New York two weeks later). Supermodel
Inès de la Fressange flew in from Paris on the
Concorde to walk in the final look from Chanel.
