new platinum-and-diamond statement necklace set with seven cushion-cut kunzites totaling more than 70 carats. There's also the Twin Bud motif, which Schlumberger developed in the 50's, prior to joining Tiffany. A late '70s version from the brand shows an interlocking scroll of vines, done in yellow gold with tiny carved buds made of lapis lazuli, coral, and diamonds. In "Hidden Garden," the design is done in intricate pavé diamond work with dimensional yellow-gold leaf layers and pear-shaped vivid unenhanced Zambian emeralds as the vibrant buds. Elsewhere, daisies, bees, Monarch butterflies, and abstract palm leaves from the Schlumberger archives have also been reinterpreted through statement earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and brooches. "Hidden Garden" also continues the brand's exploration of Schlumberger's most famous design: Bird on a Rock. Introduced in 1965 when Schlumberger took inspiration from a yellow cockatoo near his home in Guadeloupe, it has long been the mascot of the brand, and recent collections have offered new visions of the piece through inventive uses of one-of-a-kind stones. In the new iteration, a bracelet and necklace suite with chrysoprase beads both feature the Bird on a Rock, the latter converting to a brooch with a 22-carat cushion-cut aquamarine. It's a piece that mightily sums up so much of Tiffany's history, in color, symbolism, and with gusto. 1936 1940 2001 2026 The Blue Book debuts illustrations. Initially, they include simple black-and-white sketches; eventually color photography expands alongside the catalogue's emphasis on important jewelry. The Tiffany flagship store opens at the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. The Atlas clock, perched on its facade, was commissioned by founder Charles Tiffany in 1853. Pantone gives "Tiffany Blue" (a registered trademark since 1998) its proprietary shade, officially naming it "1837 Blue," after the company's founding year. The latest edition, "Hidden Garden," debuted in April, reinterpreting some of Schlumberger's important motifs through abstract and innovative designs. These pear-shaped, unenhanced Zambian emerald-and-diamond earrings revisit Schlumberger's Twin Bud motif, shown next to a circa-1978 version with tiny carved buds made of lapis lazuli, coral, and diamonds. Conceived in 1965, the now iconic Bird on a Rock, at left, has been re-envisioned as a bracelet and necklace suite with chrysoprase beads. Jean Schlumberger joins Tiffany & Co, introducing the world to one of its most iconic pieces, Bird on a Rock. Though it has taken on many forms, it was first created as a custom piece for his friend Bunny Mellon. 1956 Twin Bud brooch featuring pear-shaped, unenhanced Zambian emeralds and diamonds J E A N S C H LU M B E R G E R , B I R D O N A R O C K , 1 9 6 5 , V I R G I N I A M U S E U M O F F I N E A R T S , R I C H M O N D , C O L L EC T I O N O F M R S .
